Community Service Learning
CIVICUS students complete over 2,000 hours of service annually! Students participate in over 225 projects per year with nearly 90 partner organizations. Projects address a variety of social issues: hunger, environmental conservation, disability rights, political advocacy, animal welfare, and more. CIVICUS staff provide the planning, organization, logistical support, and, when needed, transportation, for most projects, though students have the opportunity to propose independent and long-term service projects with organizations of their choosing.
In recent projects, students have acted as mentors for local elementary students, planted trees to increase the canopy in Washington, DC, served meals from a mobile soup kitchen, handled dogs at a humane rescue adoption event, canvassed on behalf of political candidates, and captioned videos to ensure accessibility for a wider community.
