What do you love about CIVICUS? I love the focus on encouraging cultural competence. I feel that the curriculum is helpful in encouraging CIVICUS members to think differently about social problems in our society. I enjoyed learning about different perspectives and how our identities inform the way we see the world. I also love CIVICUS' encouragement of service opportunities, which allow us to have a direct impact on the issues we find most pressing.
What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? My favorite CIVICUS experience is easily the Recwell retreat at the beginning of the fall semester. Rock climbing + team activities made for a fun day that allowed me to connect with many of my peers for the first time in person. I also enjoyed hosting a trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington DC. |

What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? Helping to plan the CIVICUS events as Programming co-chair and being able to learn more about how to approach conflict within a multicultural society.

What do you love about CIVICUS? I love CIVICUS because of the sense of community it has given me at such a large school. It has been a great way to make friends with the people I'm living with and connections that go beyond the classroom.
What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? My favorite CIVICUS experiences so far have been our trips to DC, during the scavenger hunt around the city at the beginning of the school year and the trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture with some of my CIVICUS classmates.

What do you love about CIVICUS? I love all of the fantastic people I have met: the leaders of service organization, my professors and TAs, and especially great friends.
What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? My favorite experience was volunteering at Hollywood Elementary School for Good Neighbor Day. It was refreshing to get out in the community and really make an impact. I also got to learn more about my CIVICUS peers!

What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? My favorite CIVICUS experience is the ongoing privilege of living with my closest friends in Somerset Hall. I also loved the pumpkin carving and painting event!

What do you love about CIVICUS? Most importantly, I love the people involved with CIVICUS. In my time on campus and in a virtual environment thus far, I have met some of the most gracious and hardworking people that I ever have come across. It is truly unanimous that we all care about serving others and bringing pride to our university, and I have loved every second of it.
What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? My favorite experience would have to be my Leadership in a Multicultural Society course last fall. It was awesome to go so in-depth into all of our lived experiences and see the pride that each one of us had for our own character traits, and how we could creatively use our uniqueness to build effective leadership practices within the group.

What do you love about CIVICUS? I love the close-knit family I was able to create by being in the CIVICUS program. It’s like living in a big house together and creating long-lasting memories that will be cherished forever.
What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? My favorite experience in CIVICUS has been the DC Scavenger Hunt because we were able to explore DC with friends as well as learn about all the cool museums and monuments located in DC.

What do you love about CIVICUS? I love how the close-knit community that CIVICUS provides. It makes a large school like the University of Maryland feel much less intimidating, especially as a freshman! It's really nice to have a small community within such a big school. There is always someone who you can count on!
What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? My favorite experience has been the retreat that we had at the beginning of the year. It was so great to come together and meet new peers! It was also nice to reconnect with peers that I had only seen on zoom. We went rock climbing on UMD's 55-foot tall freestanding climbing wall!

What do you love about CIVICUS? I love that so many people from diverse backgrounds are brought together to form a community. You get the opportunity to meet people you live with in classes; I have met the best people in CIVICUS, who I now consider my closest friends. The classes you take for the course have taught me about social issues in much more depth, which motivates you to be an active member of society -- and in your own community.
What has been your favorite CIVICUS experience so far? Meeting up with my peer mentor during my first semester. My peer mentor's other mentee has become my best friend as well!
