An important focus of CIVICUS is community service learning. CIVICUS offers organizational support and coordination for over 150 service projects each year. Students also participate in self-initiated service projects outside of those offered by CIVICUS. In the 2017–2018 academic year, CIVICUS students completed close to 2,000 hours of service work in organizations addressing a range of issues, including poverty, homelessness, child welfare, education, animals, and the environment. Once CIVICUS students are exposed to social needs and community resources, many continue to engage in community service work as juniors and seniors and after graduation.
