Veterans Day Celebration
We need 4-6 students to help from 11:15 am - 2:15 pm on Friday November 10. They will be serving as Celebration assistants, largely working with the Celebration food buffet set out in the Garden. A tasty free lunch is included for volunteers. The lunch is rain or shine (we move some of the food and dining indoors if the weather is poor).
Event Details:
Dress: Please dress in casual business attire. If it is possible to wear red or blue (or a combination of the colors), that would be great. If the day is chilly, be sure to dress warmly, since a good portion of the assignment will be out-of-doors.
Meet: on the Garden (formerly West) Chapel patio. This is the patio area facing Lot Y behind the Chapel building.
Purpose of Event: This event is organized to celebrate the contributions of UMD Veterans and remember Veterans who no longer are with us. The event begins with a program in the Main Chapel, then is followed by a lunch outdoors.
Arrival Time: 11:15 am
Your Contacts: Melva Coles (primary) and Denise McHugh (secondary). Sarah Grun and Kristina Rubio also will be present on the patio.
Assignments:
From 11:15 am to 11:45 am: Please work with Melva, Sarah, and Kristin to set up the lunch.
11:45 am: Guests start coming to the Lunch reception following the program in the Chapel. During this time, Civicus volunteers make sure that food is supplied, that things stay neat, that plates, cups, etc., not being used are put in the trash or recycling, etc.
As time allows, the Civicus volunteers should eat lunch themselves at the Buffet.
12:45pmish: Lunch Reception ends and Melva, Denise, Kayler, and the Civicus volunteers do some clean-up.
2:15 pm: Volunteer commitment is over.
Meet in the ground floor lounge at 11am
If you must cancel your participation within 5 days of the project date, you are responsible for finding a substitute and notifying us (you may leave a comment below). If no substitute is found you will need to complete an additional service project this semester.
