Meet the CIVICUS Advisory Board


Nikhil Modi headshotNikhil Modi - President

Nikhil is a sophomore business major from West Windsor, New Jersey. He is a second-year CIVICUS Associate who held the position of First-Year Chair last semester and is now excited to help shape the future direction of the Board. Outside of CIVICUS, Nikhil sits on the Provost’s Student Advisory Committee helping to advise UMD’s administration on student affairs and serves as the Design Thinking Specialist on the Student Government of the Smith School of Business. Nikhil is also a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, and loves to dance, learn new instruments, and embark on outdoor adventures.

Katie is a sophomore biology major from Reading, Massachusetts. She currently serves as the Vice President of the CIVICUS Student Advisory Board. Outside of CIVICUS, she is involved in the UMD Greek Life "Ten Women Plan," which helps prevent sexual assault on campus. Her favorite service project is with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, and she hopes to continue to make CIVICUS the welcoming environment that it has been for her.

Jonathan Frank display pictureJonathan Frank - Treasurer

Jonathan is a sophomore public policy major from Cumberland, Maryland. Outside of his duties as Treasurer of the CIVICUS Student Advisory Board, Jonathan is a Resident Assistant in the North Hill Community, the Living and Learning Program Representative on the BSOS Dean’s Student Advisory Council, and a Recovery Leader for the Food Recovery Network. He also represents CIVICUS as a Student Ambassador. As Treasurer, Jonathan hopes to create financial transparency within the program and ensure that available funds are allocated to benefit the best interest of all Associates. Jonathan has also successfully sought and secured additional funding for the Board through grant proposals.

Rachel is a sophomore economics and government & politics double major from Mahopac, New York. In addition to her work with CIVICUS and her volunteering experiences, Rachel is a Senator-at-Large for the Residence Hall Association, a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary, a safety officer for the Women's Rugby team and an employee at the Adventure Program at UMD Recreation and Wellness. As Service Committee Chair, Rachel hopes to emphasize the five pillars of CIVICUS, especially the community service learning pillar, by organizing creative options for CIVICUS Associates to complete their service requirements and utilize their experiences in their future endeavors.

Adam is a sophomore public health major from Ocean City, Maryland. Along with serving as Programming Committee Chair on the CIVICUS Student Advisory Board, Adam is the Residence Hall Association’s North Hill President. He works as a lifeguard at the recreation center on campus and is also a CIVICUS Ambassador. In his free time, Adam loves to travel. As Programming Committee Chair, Adam hopes to aid his fellow CIVICUS Associates in having enjoyable CIVICUS experiences and broaden the connections between fellow CIVICUS Associates.

Sheryl Kenfack headshotSheryl Kenfack - Outreach Chair

Sheryl is a sophomore communication major originally from St. Louis, Missouri. When she and her family moved to Maryland last year, she was surprised by the amount of love and acceptance she was met with from CIVICUS Associates. As the Outreach Committee Chair, she hopes to welcome new students with even more love and truly make Somerset feel like their new home. Sheryl is a part of the university's radio station, WMUC,  and several cultural associations on campus. She just finished interning for On-Target Communications and hopes to use her unique experiences and voice to make CIVICUS diverse, inclusive, and enjoyable for all.

Val Kologrivov headshotVal Kologrivov - Alumni Chair

Val is a junior economics and government & politics double major from Wyckoff, New Jersey. In addition to being the CIVICUS Student Advisory Board Alumni Chair, Val spends much of her time representing student voices through the Residence Hall Association as the National Communications Coordinator. Val is a Resident Assistant in Somerset Hall and helps ensure that every CIVICUS Associate has the welcoming, gratifying, and inclusive experience that she had during her first two years.
